Overnights: Fairbanks 2, Coldfoot 1, Fairbanks 1, Kennicott 2, Valdez 1, Seward 1, Anchorage 2

 

Day 1                      Transfer from Gettysburg by motorcoach to airport.  Fly to Fairbanks.  Meet your Premier Alaska Tour Director and transfer to your hotel for overnight. Overnight Fairbanks

 

Day 2                      Today enjoy a city tour of Fairbanks including a visit to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  After lunch on own, enjoy your ride out to Chena Hot Springs. Enjoy an included visit to the Ice Museum. There is time at Chena to get in the hot springs, bike or relax (additional fees may apply). Return to hotel in Fairbanks for overnight. Overnight Fairbanks.

 

Day 3                      Today, you travel north above the Arctic Circle to Coldfoot. While in Coldfoot, you can explore on your own or participate in an optional activity, such as float trip; visit the community of Wiseman (the only year-round lived in community along the Dalton Highway); take a flight through the Brooks Mountain Range to Anaktuvuk Pass, an Nunimuit Eskimo Village (optional activities may vary at time of booking). Overnight Coldfoot.

 

Day 4                      You will experience life above the Arctic Circle, view the Mighty Yukon and explore the arctic tundra. Return to Fairbanks via vehicle (very late return). Overnight Fairbanks.

 

Day 5                      This morning, board your deluxe motorcoach for today’s grand adventure to Wrangell/St. Elias National Park. Drive along the Al-Canada Highway and watch for views of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Continue to Chitna, where you take a flight into Wrangell/St. Elias National Park (US’s largest national park) to Kennicott. Overnight Kennicott   

 

Day 6                      Today, enjoy you’ll a glacier hike on Root Glacier!  You will be fitted with crampons (spikes strapped on the bottom of your boots for traction while exploring Root Glacier). The adventure is for all ages and abilities, no hiking experience need.  This afternoon, step back in time for a historic tour of the Mill building of the Kennicott Copper Corporation, built in the early 1900’s. Overnight Kennicott.

* Please note that part of the glacier hike and mine tour involve uneven ground surfaces. The mill tour involves climbing steep steps and many floors of the Mine building.

 

Day 7                      Today, fly from Kennicott to Chitna.  Upon arrival, board your motorcoach for your ride to the coastal community of Valdez. Enjoy a visit to the Valdez Museum. Time permitting, you may want to kayak or walk around the town. Overnight Valdez.               

 

Day 8                      Today board your charter vessel as you explore the wonders of Prince William Sound from Valdez to Whittier.  Enjoy the narrated tour as you view Columbia Glacier, learn about the 1964 Earthquake, early explorers and gold mining.  Also, enjoy viewing marine wildlife, such as Steller Sea Lions, puffins, cormorants and more.  Arrive in Whittier, where you disembark and board your motorcoach.  You will travel through the one way Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, which serves both vehicles and train travel.  Travel south along the scenic Seward Highway to the coastal community of Seward. Overnight Seward.

 

Day 9                      This morning enjoy a behind the scenes visit to the Alaska Sealife Center, the only cold water research facility in North America.  The remainder of your day is at leisure. You may choose to fish, take a boat cruise into the Kenai Fjords National Park, visit champion Iditarod Sled Dogs at Mitch Seavey’s Iditaride, kayaking or Exit Glacier.  Late this afternoon, board the world famous Alaska Railroad for your scenic journey north to Anchorage. Overnight Anchorage.

 

 

Day 10                   Today, enjoy a city sightseeing tour, including Earthquake Park and Lake Hood/Lake Spenard, the busiest float plane base in the world.  A visit to the Alaska Aviation and Heritage Museum located at Lake Hood/Lake Spenard. Enjoy lunch at the Sourdough Mining Company. There is time to visit Alaska Wildberry Products, where you see the largest chocolate waterfall in the US. There is time at Wildberry Theater if you would like to view, Alaska, the Great Land (approximately 35 minutes). Return to downtown Anchorage/hotel and the remainder of your day is at leisure.  Overnight in Anchorage.                                                                                                                       Meals: L                

                                                               

Day 11                   Transfer to the Anchorage Airport for your flight. (booked by Ocean Holiday but not currently included in the price).  Travel by motorcoach back to Gettysburg.

TOUR INCLUDES

 

·          Premier Alaska Tours local escort will be with the group throughout the entire land tour.

·          All transfers, luggage handling, all applicable taxes and sightseeing tours as indicated.

·          First class hotels (three star) are used throughout the tour.  In Coldfoot very basic, clean rooms that are extremely rustic by urban standards are used. Rooms in Coldfoot and Kennicott do NOT have private bathrooms. Toilets and shower stall facilities are located down the hall.   

·          No meals are included on this program unless stated.
